Ben Rachwal was born and raised just north of Detroit, in Pontiac, Michigan. With both parents as pharmacist role models, Ben aspired to own his own store some day like his mother and father.Ben graduated from Purdue School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He met Belinda while attending Purdue and decided to stay in the community he had grown to love. Together they have one daughter and son-in-law, and two grandchildren. While in college Ben worked at he worked at Hooks and continued his employment with the company after college when Hooks became Revco, then CVS pharmacy. He then continued his retail experience at CVS and then Target Pharmacy. Having a desire to apply his clinical pharmacy skills, Ben joined the team at Seton, the pharmacy for the intensive care unit at Saint Vincent in Lafayette.
His lifelong experiences in both retail and clinical pharmacy offered him the perfect combination of knowledge for a pharmacy of his own. In 2012, Ben and his wife Belinda decided to launch their own independent compounding pharmacy. In a land of giants, CVS, Walgreen’s, Wal-Mart, and more, Ben took the bold leap and started offering pharmacy services where he worked hard to focus on the patient approach. With the core value of giving the patient the care they deserve, Ben started from zero customers. Now 4 years later the business continues to serve the community with exceptional staff and loyal customers to thank. In addition to the pharmacy, Ben is President of the Community Pharmacies of Indiana organization and has spent many semesters as a student pharmacy mentor. Outside of the pharmacy, Ben loves to spend his time with his family and enjoys time outdoors.
Belinda Rachwal started the venture of CustomPlus Pharmacy over four years ago with her husband and co-owner, Ben Rachwal. Belinda is the Chief Financial Officer for CustomPlus and brings over 27 years of finance and accounting experience to the organization. Her past work experience in healthcare, manufacturing, and not-for-profit has provided her with a strong foundation for managing the financial affairs and owning a small business. Belinda is an integral part to the daily operations as well as running the entire financial side of the business. Prior to CustomPlus, Belinda was the Vice President of Finance for the Purdue Research Foundation. She holds her CPA license and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She also volunteers her time as a Board member and Treasurer for both the Greater Lafayette Civic Theater and her neighborhood association. In her spare time, her greatest enjoyment is spending time with her two grandchildren and her family. She loves spending time boating and enjoys spending time on the water.
Zeina Abou-jaoude was born and raised in Lebanon, a small country in the Middle East. She has three brothers, one a pulmonologist living in New Jersey and the other two still live in Lebanon where one is an attorney and the other a Certified Public Accountant. Zeina attended Holy Family School and upon graduating high school, she enrolled at St. Joseph University School of Pharmacy in Beirut. After graduating pharmacy school in 1994, Zeina opened her own pharmacy in Lebanon, in the village she grew up in and operated it for 10 years, until she met her husband Salim. Salim is a pulmonologist and had been practicing medicine in the United States for 20 years so upon marriage Zeina moved to the United States. Together, they started a family and continued to live in Ohio for nine years. After Salim joined the Team at Franciscan Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana, her family moved to Lafayette and have lived in the Greater Lafayette Community for the past two years. Their two daughters, Maria and Christina, are now 9 and 8 years old. Zeina speaks French and Arabic fluently and English is her third fluent language. Zeina joined the CustomPlus team in 2015 and is the head pharmacist for the CustomPlus Long Term Care Pharmacy. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, and learning other languages.
David Norris is a pharmacist who started working at CustomPlus immediately following graduation from Purdue University in 2014 with his Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science in Management. His passion for pharmacy started in his hometown of Lebanon, Indiana where he began working at an independent pharmacy at the age of 16. His experience there drove him to the field of pharmacy. During his last year in college he had the opportunity to work with Benjamin Rachwal, owner of CustomPlus, where they discovered a shared entrepreneurial spirit and desire to serve the Lafayette community. With his additional time, David enjoys mentoring other Purdue pharmacy students by offering job shadowing opportunities and advice.
Megan Pierre graduated from Harrison High School in January 2005. Growing up in a family of caregivers Megan went on to pursue a career in mentoring at risk youth and adults with mental and physical disabilities. In 2010 Megan decided to make a career change and entered into the pharmacy world as a Pharmacy Technician for Meijer Pharmacy in Lafayette. Megan then joined CustomPlus in June of 2014 as a full time compounding technician where she is currently responsible for preparing all of the customized prescription compounds. When Megan is not in the lab creating, she is busy being a loving and dedicated mother to her son DJ who is five. Megan enjoys singing, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends as much as possible.
Silas Maxwell graduated from Purdue University in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Sales and Marketing as well as a minor in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. Silas began working for CustomPlus in the fall of 2013 as a part-time courier and technician. After graduation Silas quickly joined the team as a full-time Sales Director for CustomPlus. Silas is tasked to meet with physicians, veterinarians, and assisted living facilities to promote the pharmacy as well as educate on how CustomPlus can better serve their patients. Silas is active in his hometown coaching youth basketball and baseball as well as being an active member at Chalmers Community Church. In his free time Silas enjoys spending time with his lovely girlfriend of 5 years, being a great uncle to his three nephews who are 5, almost 3, and 3 months old, and being outside.
Stephanie graduated from Purdue University in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication Design. She is the daughter of owners, Ben and Belinda Rachwal and began her career with CustomPlus at the conception of its name in 2012. Stephanie manages the creative output, website, blog, marketing, and advertising for CustomPlus Pharmacy. She is also involved in community outreach for the pharmacy, such as the Indiana Care Circle, Senior Games, Senior Fair, Chamber events, and much more. Stephanie is married to Jay Sweet, a Product Engineering Manager at Wabash National. Together they have two children, Ella (4) and Harrison (2) and one on the way due in December 2016. Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, boating, art, and running.
Tyler Gerlach was born and raised in West Lafayette. He graduated from Harrison High School in 2012 and was accepted into the Purdue College of Pharmacy with an expected graduation date of 2018 with his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He started working at CustomPlus Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern in May of 2015. He became interested in pharmacy because he really enjoys learning how drugs work in the body and has a strong passion for helping others. He is a member of the Society of Nuclear Pharmacy at Purdue University. In his spare time, Tyler likes watching movies, spending time outdoors, and enjoying the company of his family and friends.
Rachel Ader is from Naperville, Illinois and is currently a student in the Purdue College of Pharmacy with an expected graduation date of May 2018 with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. Rachel also has a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and minor in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue. Rachel started working at CustomPlus Pharmacy in April 2013. She loves to interact with all the patients, especially the canine patients. Rachel’s passion for pharmacy started when she saw how medicine has helped her family member’s health and quality of life improve. She is a student member in Indiana Pharmacists Alliance and the National Community Pharmacist Association. She has also represented Purdue in multiple national pharmacy competitions. Rachel has a special interest in learning about Diabetes and has volunteered at the American Diabetes Association John Warvel Camp several times. Rachel also enjoys learning about God, watching movies, and reading in her spare time.
Bethany Lightle is the newest member of the CustomPlus family. Bethany started working in August 2016. Previously, Bethany was employed by Stembel Pharmacy in Fowler, Indiana and worked there for nine years. Bethany was raised in Fowler and currently lives there with her husband. She graduated from Ivy Tech College with her Associates in Medical Assisting and is currently enrolled at Ivy Tech working towards an Associates in Surgical Technology. In Bethany’s spare time she enjoys reading and relaxing at home with her husband, Curtis.
Harvie Granger started working at CustomPlus in the January of 2016 as a courier. Prior to CustomPlus, Harvie worked in the Traffic Signal Industry for over 50 years. Before retiring in 2015, he held a variety of positions including Traffic Signal Maintenance Supervision, Sales, Maintenance assistance and programming, and Traffic Signal Designer. Harvie has been a member of the Harrison Kiwanis International for over 10 years. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his wife Donna and play Euchre.
Clay Albertson joined the CustomPlus team in the fall of 2015 as a Courier. Clay has a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University. Clay served four years in the Air Force. He then went on to teach 5th grade for two years in Plainfield, Indiana. Then Clay continued his career as a Publishing Representative for 45 years. He is a member of American Legion Post 38 and is the School Education Coordinator working with middle school students that are getting ready to take Americanism and Government tests. Clay also is involved with the American Legion Nationwide Oratorical Contest. In his spare time, Clay enjoys fishing and spending time with his three children and five grandchildren.
